Are you looking for the perfect, most luxurious baby blanket that is easy to make? This blanket is super soft, warm and the perfect weight. The best part? It is easy and works up quickly! I have made several blankets with this pattern of all different sizes, all the way from baby blankets to adult size, to king size. I personally sleep with one on my bed every night and I LOVE it. I have made countless gifts with this pattern and every person has said the same. They absolutely love them!

In this post, I have written the pattern out a couple ways to try to best accommodate all crocheters. If you simply want to follow written instructions, I have them written out in that manner. If you’re a beginner and want step by step instructions, I have also made a set of videos and pictures for you to follow to make this as easy as possible. Tutorials were completed for right handed and left handed people. I am left handed and know how hard it can be to find materials catered to left handed individuals. Therefore, I have made it my mission to make things easier so you can have the most enjoyable experience possible.

I also have the perfect beginner washcloth here if you’d like to check it out!

Materials Needed

Materials, chunky yarn, crochet hook and blanket

For this project you will need the items below. For your convenience I have provided links to the needed materials so that you can get all the essentials right from the convenience of your own home. I personally have the crochet hooks listed below and find them to be good hooks. If you wish to get stitch markers, I use the metal ones because the plastic ones seem to break too easily. I find the metal ones listed below work great. If you get plastic yarn needles, the ones below are what I use. As for yarn, I’ve made countless blankets out of the Bernat Blanket yarn and absolutely love it.

Note 1: For this pattern, I recommend using Bernat Yarn size “6” and “super bulky” yarn. I have found that yarn is not all the same. For example, a different brand of yarn, size “6” could be a completely different size, therefore will not work up the same way.

Note 2: I find that for me and for many others, the tension is too tight if the foundation chain is done with the 8mm that is used for the whole project, therefore I use a 10mm for the foundation chain, then switch to the 8mm for the remainder of the project.

Abbreviations

A vibrant arrangement of yarn in various colors organized on shelves, perfect for crocheting or crafting.

This pattern is extremely simple and works up pretty quick with the bulky yarn. It is a great beginner project due to the simplicity of the project, but the final piece is soft and perfect for cuddling with! The abbreviations used for this project are:

  • Ch – chain
  • DC – Double crochet
  • Sl st – slip stitch

Gauge

9 sts x 5 rows in a 4×4 square.

My gauge is noted above. Gauge for this pattern isn’t really important, just know that if your gauge doesn’t match mine and you want your blanket to be square, you might have to adjust your number of stitches or rows a bit.

My final project measures about 40in x 40in. This is a good size for a receiving blanket but really grows well with the child. My 3 year old twins still use their blankets that are this size and they are perfect size because my twins are able to carry them around easily enough and are big enough for them to cuddle under still.
